Here are my favorite cows before the "Jersey Cow". It's the swedish cows SRB (to the left) and White and Black,
The "Arctic Cow"(to the right)
The SRB breed is well known especially for:
High production
Easy calving
Low incidence of calf mortality Low incidence of mastitis
Scandanavian Red Breeds
The Scandinavian Red breeds represent an alternative pool of breeding material which has still to be
fully utilized. Both the Norwegian Red and the Swedish Red and White breeds now have a long
history of selective improvement. The comprehensive recording systems used have made it possible
to select these breeds for ease of calving, fertility and disease resistance. This is a track other breeds
are beginning to follow but often without the large number of daughters that are necessary to give
dependable proofs for these lowly heritable characters. From 1997 we may have published proofs
in Britain for somatic cell counts but, with the number of daughters currently found, the reliabilities
will be low.
